Speakers:
Jake Mitchell is a Systems Analyst in IT at Eastman Chemical Company. He is currently working on his Masters in Industrial Engineering from the University of Tennessee. He lives in Kingsport with his wife Casey and two dogs Samson and Jonah.
Mark S. Bragg is Associate Vice-President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, East Tennessee State University. He resides in Kingsport, Tennessee with his wife, Sue, and daughter, Alisha.
Presentation summary:
In 2008, Eastman IT began investigating potential solutions to minimizing computer and monitor electricity consump-tion. While not yet complete, this project will yield Eastman a savings of $75-100k annually and a significant, yet to be determined amount of carbon emissions. Jake Mitchell, the project manager, will share how they did it , what they learned and share tips on how to configure your computer to save electricity. ETSU has been the host institution for 2 state-wide eWaste recycling events resulting in over 1.5 million pounds of eWaste properly recycled at no cost. eWaste is a growing concern to the environment and much of today’s recycling winds up shipped to third world countries where it is not properly recycled. Mark Bragg will discuss how we can properly recycle eWaste and be sure where it will go.
